As the last dimensional sign face was being whittled on our trusty ShopSabre CNC machine, it was time to assemble the first set. I welded up an internal structure of square tubing and then glued and clamped the three layers of routed Precision Board high-density urethane together around it. It took all of our clamps to hold things tight while the glue fully cures overnight. Tomorrow I’ll finish the structural mounts and then do up the second sign. The Downey’s Farm sign is beginning to look a whole lot more complete. Stay tuned…
Kitchen-dining room progress
The kitchen and dining rooms of the Copper Crown Suite of the Hazelnut Inn are now base-coated, and the electrician has hooked up the switches and temporary lighting, which makes the continuing work much easier. The oval windowed dining area is magic with the super-thick walls around it. Opposite is the litchen area with another small oval window that peeks into the hidden library, which will be accessed via a secret door that guests will be able to discover. Over the next weeks, this area will continue to be painted. Stay tuned…
First sign face routed
The Downey’s Farm signs measure almost 8 feet wide by four feet tall. Each face of the sign (4 in all) is routed from a 1 1/2” thick sheet of 25lb Precision Board HDU and takes about eight hours to route on our ShopSabre CNC router. I’ll keep the router going all weekend so we can begin assembling the sign faces next week. As soon as the signs are laminated over the welded steel structural frames, we can fit and weld on the brackets. Stay tuned…
