One of the fun pieces we designed and crafted for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch was this giant pumpkin carriage. It is made from sculpted concrete over a welded steel frame. It was designed to roll - just far enough to get it into place, as the path to its display space in the Storybook Land was too narrow for the crane and too far to reach by lifting over the nearby fences and trees. Although it was a tough challenge, our plan worked perfectly, and guests to the farm continue to enjoy taking a picture with their families in the giant pumpkin.
Jan's Carousel signs
The beautiful Carousel at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch is named in honour of Jan, one of the founders of the farm. The prancing horse was sculpted by Peter, and the sign lettering is 23K gold leaf. The two weathervanes on the buildings feature the Mustang horse because Jan’s prized car was a Ford Mustang.
Heavy hauler
Another of my favourite photo ops at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch is this little flatbed truck with a giant pumpkin on the back deck. Like the little red truck I posted a couple of days ago, it is all steel construction. The pumpkin is made from hand-sculpted fibreglass-reinforced concrete. The duelly truck has a hidden frame underneath to keep the front wheels suspended in the air, supposedly because of the heavy pumpkin on the deck. This feature was a lot of fun to imagine and build!
