Two chances to win!!

It is always an honour to be named as a finalist in a national competition like the BOCSIes, which stands for Best of the Canadian Sign Industry annual awards. We’ve been pleased to be honoured many times through the years and have a good-sized shelf of shiny awards we proudly display. There are several categories in the competition, including sign systems, a project with at least three signs. Two of our projects have been judged as finalists in this category this year… NEB’s Fun World and the Under Hill. The winner is to be announced at a gala dinner in Niagara Falls. After many years of wanting to attend, I decided to actually travel back east this year.

I travelled much of today, starting at 2:00 am this morning and to make the most of the trip will drop in on three clients in the area before the big event on Thursday. I visited NEB’s Fun World late this afternoon to see the entire entrance wall installed and witness all of the hard work that Tom, Jeff and their crew have done. The facility looks better each time I visit! They did a fabulous job installing the 100-feet-long x 35-feet-high entrance facade.

Tonight I’m catching up on a bit of sleep before visiting two of our pumpkin farm customers before the show/gala on Thursday. Stay tuned for the results…

Painting the ceiling

The goal in the coming weeks is to do as much work as possible on the scaffold on the upper reaches of the Copper Crown suite. Once we complete the painting, we will remove the scaffold at long last and then lift the giant chandelier into place. The vaulted ceiling is already looking amazing! It is light and airy, yet imposing as a castle should be. It won’t be long until we are hanging banners and moving in the furniture. Stay tuned…

Light 'er up!

I spent yesterday wiring and welding up the armatures. Before we began the sculpting, I tested the wiring to make sure everything worked. We worked for about an hour, in the late afternoon, layering some sculpting epoxy onto the candle armatures. We managed to complete nine of the thirteen candles. On Monday, we should be able to have this piece ready for paint. This chandelier is going to look right at home in the grand room of the Copper Crown.
