Each workday the sculpting crew are a little closer to the floor. The main room of the Copper Crown is absolutely spectacular and superbly detailed from every angle. Once the draperies, banners and other details are added it is going to be fit for royalty without a doubt. Imagine staying in this space with your significant other. It will be possible soon…
Chandelier mockup
The structure for the chandelier for the Copper Crown suite is now fully welded and sculpted. Finishing this stage allowed us to take it off the welding table and hang it from our lifting beam. We cut some pipes that will form the armatures for the candles to be sculpted next. Tomorrow we’ll pull the wires through the giant fixture and fasten the bulb receptacles into place. Then the candle armatures will be sculpted to look like dripping wax. It won’t be long until this fixture is hoisted into its permanent home. Stay tuned…
Chandlier extraordinaire!
My big project this week is to fabricate the light fixture for the Copper Crown suite of the Hazelnut Inn. The giant ‘wood’ and steel fixture will have a dozen (electric) candles mounted to the top ring. Fabricating the fixture has involved some complex files to CNC route and plasma cut the pieces. The six pieces of routed Precision Board were glued up over a welded steel frame. Then the forty-two pieces of plasma-cut steel were formed, fitted and welded into place to make the fancy steel ring. One more day of welding and grinding will finish this stage. Then we can sculpt the dozen electric candles that will be perched on top. Hopefully, by the end of the week, this piece will be ready for paint. Stay tuned…
