There is nothing quite as exciting or fun as a lift day. We’ve done it so many times the anxiety doesn’t happen any longer. We’ve learned to fully engineer and think out our moves so everything is planned. We’ve also learned not to rush these days for mistakes happen when things are done in a hurry. Greg from Wishlow Cranes was our crane operator for the day, one of my all time favourites. He is attentive and extremely skillful. A hand signal to lower a smidge results in exactly that which means things go together smoothly and neat. I’ve posted four pictures below which capture a little of the excitement we felt today as the Copper Crown’s tallest tower was lifted, guided slowly onto the lower piece and then securely fastened in place. I was high up in the man lift, Peter and Matt were inside. Together our efforts were MAGIC!
Need a tow?
I’m busy exploring all kinds of fun ideas for the drive-in themed mini golf currently on my design desk. One of the concepts we are considering is an old fashioned gas station as the golf clubhouse. As I remember (my first job was pumping gas) back in the 60’s they almost always had a service bay and a tow truck parked out back. The gas station design is well on its way to finish but the tow truck design is already done. This project sure brings back some fond memories!
Wooden style
Yesterday, as quitting time quickly rolled around I got to finish up the welding of the tree base for the Pie Barn sign. Then at last it was time to weld the rolling pin in place and carve in the final woodgrain by hand with an air-powered die grinder. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this task since I did the design some weeks ago. Thankfully, it turned out as amazing as I imagined it when I was drawing. I love it when a plan comes together! The scale of the piece becomes apparent when you see the tape measure on the right side on top of the bracket. We’ll sculpt the tree this coming week and then we’ll turn it over to Becke and Alyssa to work their paint magic on the piece. Stay tuned…
