Ready for battle

The boys had a lot of fun cutting, welding and grinding up more than a dozen oversized axes, swords and spears to be used on the Viking project. The engineers are putting the final touches (after many revisions and adjustments) to the structural plans for the ship hulls and the targets. Hopefully the galvanizers will allow us to pick up the barrel and box frames on Monday or Tuesday.  Then we can begin the wiring and sculpting process at last! It's going to be fun!

TEDx dress rehearsal

After months of thinking, writing, assembling pictures, editing and practicing, the time has come to present my thoughts at the local TEDx conference. The local audience is small but there is a possibility of reaching a much larger audience online in the future. It is exciting!

This evening I attended the the dress rehearsal. Each participant only had three or four minutes to test sound levels and quickly check our slides to make sure everything was working as it should. Today's rehearsal was also a chance to run through the introductions and practice putting on the microphone and also get used to the layout of the venue. It was both fun and exciting!

The event will be live-streamed through the day tomorrow (Saturday February 27, 2016). http://tedxchilliwack.com/live-cast-2016/  I am the LAST of twenty-one speakers and will go on between 4:30-5:00 pm PACIFIC TIME (or so)

Silver City

Today it was time to head into the big city, something we generally avoid if at all possible. But the barrel and box feature needed to get to the galvanizers (Silver City) to get their shiny coat of zinc. The four small pieces were a good trial run at something we had never done previously and there was lots to learn. Sometime next week I'll make another journey into the city to pick the pieces up. The balance of the project pieces, which are much too big to fit on our trailers will make the journey on the back of two large commercial trucks.
