GREAT PROGRESS

head in progress

Today Sarah came in to help me do more work on the Meat Shop sign. I drilled a hole through the top of his head and inserted a heavy steel bar. it will provide plenty of structure for the long horns. I bulked out the shape of much of his head and then started in on some details around the eyes. It worked up pretty quickly.

One of the faces for the sign was finished routing and I couldn’t resist trying the bull’s head on the sign. Tomorrow the other side should be finished on the router and I’ll get the other bull’s head in progress and perhaps the steel frame of the sign welded up. It will be laminated into the center of the sign to provide a sturdy hanging point and plenty of strength. This sign will weigh a considerable amount when it is done. It is four feet tall - four foot six from horn tip to horn tip and will be four feet plus deep from nose to nose on both sides. The owners of the business have built a wonderful timber stand with a  roof which suits the piece perfectly.

Needless to say I’m having a blast sculpting the fierce beasts. It will be a wonderful piece for the portfolio when it is done. I have no doubt it will be a new landmark in Kimberly too.

Stay tuned for more progress...
