The last week has been hectic with a three day road trip in the middle. The car / gas station project is finally complete at last. I had delivered the pieces a few weeks ago, then had to wait until the client built the little building. I returned to do the rock work, some painting and make sure everything was perfect. Traveling to the worksite was about six hours drive, then two days of work and a long drive home once more. But the sun was shining bright, the days absolutely perfect for the job. I enjoyed being out of the office for the time.
As always when I leave, I had to hit the ground running when I got back. Among the endless phone calls and messages to return, work to catch up on and other chores, I found our good sized lawn needed mowing desperately. That’s a job I enjoy and I saved it for the end of the day as a reward. It had gotten long in my absence and the dandelions were in abundance and in full bloom. In years past I would have been dismayed at all the weeds... but I’ve learned to appreciate them in the last while by my grand daughter Phoebe. Before I mowed them down she took me by the hand out onto the grass, picked a handful of the fully seeded stems and brought them to me. We took turns blowing them with great gusto, and each time, as per her instructions, made a wish - a different one with each blow. I have no doubt we planted a whole new bumper crop of the pesky weeds but I didn’t care. I look at the bright yellow flowers differently these days, seeing them through Phoebe’s eyes and taking delight in the moment.
