One aspect of the work I love is that we do so many disciplines. I learned to weld many years ago and still enjoy it to this day. The part I enjoy most is the constant problem solving and engineering I get to do on all our projects. I like to design first and then figure out how to build it afterwards. That way there are no limits in my mind and the design is not compromised in any way.
The bracket for the Vedder Mountain Grille sign was a challenge. I first bent the tubing to shape on our home built hydraulic bender. It followed the curve of the top. I capped the ends then cut the holes for the steel rods that would support the sign. I bent a second rod that would be laminated inside the sign to give it extra strength. Then I welded it all together.
The first two of six layers of High Density Urethane were hollowed out for the structural steel then glued together and clamped tight. Next up we’ll weld the assembly to the sturdy post before we add the last four layers. The sign is coming together fast and looking pretty good!
Stay tuned for more progress...
