When we first bought our small acreage it came complete with an old billy goat - no longer wanted by the previous owner. Janis thought it might be lonely and soon we added three new baby goats to the herd. The first night they were bunked in with the horse as we feared old Billy might resent the new intruders. Billy was very set in his ways and a little cantankerous. As it got dark Janis was nervous how everyone might be getting along and checked often through the night. The worries proved needless however, for in the morning we woke up to this sight. The runt of the litter was perched on top of the pony to get the best possible vantage point as it surveyed its new home.
As time passed our menagerie of animals grew. Chickens were added to the fold. And as always Janis worried how the new additions fit into the mix. Each time our fears were unfounded. The next morning the new chickens were roosted in the warmest and driest place to be found... snuggled up against and sitting on op of the very same goat that had stood on the horse a few months previous.
A definite pecking order had been established as each new animal was added in Yarrow.
