Building a dimensional jigsaw puzzle

The boys finished welding in the thousands of feet of pencil rod to complete the framework for the inside of the mine shaft today. That meant the crew could begin the labor intensive task of attaching the galvanized diamond lath to the two middle sections. Peter continued to block in the structure and framework for the outside portions of the mountain. Everything is being designed to come apart in eight large sections before we start applying the sculpted concrete skin. Once the concrete and painting are done the pieces will then be transported to the worksite and craned into position to be bolted back together once more. This is the single largest piece we've done in our shop to date.

Thirty-two days and counting

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions expo is to be held in thirty-two days. It's coming quickly! Our booth got it's final going over this morning. Supplies were loaded in and everything checked one last time. Then it was time for a shop rearrangement as we moved it outside to the porch. Tomorrow a semi-truck and trailer will pull into the yard and we'll load it up for the long journey to Florida. It looks to be a busy show with a number of meetings already planned. We look forward to seeing many old friends and meeting a whole bunch of new ones. It's thirty-two days until showtime! If you are going to the IAAPA EXPO we'll be in booth 980. See you there!

Building a mountain from the inside out

The shop became instantly full with the start of our latest project. It's a very large piece which is to be built in sections, both vertically and horizontally. Like many pieces we are doing these days we won't see it all together until the day it is assembled on site. We have two welders going steady as they fabricate the armature for a mine shaft and mountain. This piece will grow on a daily basis and it won't be long before we begin to sculpt the concrete. Stay tuned...
