I’ve been debating with myself which image will be the first I create as a limited edition engraving on the new laser when it arrives in a few days. Last night, it came to me in a flash. The machine is capable of both engraving and cutting the wood I intend to work with. I need to get up to speed on both procedures, so I decided to combine these techniques for the first limited edition run. I drew up the mechanical circus train image a while ago as a triptych (three companion pieces). Last night I decided to create a custom postage stamp border. These will be engraved and cut out on the laser, hand-coloured with pigmented inks and then signed and numbered. Stay tuned to see the result…
Harp
The Copper Crown Suite has a small upper interior balcony that is perfect for an imaginative display piece. A while back, Becke saw one of my Sign Invitational pieces and took a liking to the toad playing a dragon harp. She suggested a larger version of the harp be created for the display. I started working on the harp as a holiday project, something I could leisurely work on over our Christmas/New Year’s break. When I have a little time, I wander out to the shop and do some work. Today’s task was to create the armature, cutting the harp shape from three layers of Precision Board HDU and shaping the pieces. I also did a little welding and basic sculpting on the head and tail. It is going to be a fun little project to keep me occupied during the holiday. Stay tuned…
Warm Christmas greetings!
Christmas at our house was spent inside the house, nice and warm, surrounded by family. We had a lot of fun eating wonderful food and playing games. Outside, it was a typical green, wet Christmas.
