Tomorrow morning, we’ll be hosting Jeremy from Shop Sabre CNC as we create a video for their series called ‘Out and About.’ In this series, they tour shops around North America with one or more of these excellent machines. I’ve been asked to talk about the unique way we use our CNC router to produce our creations. We have worked up a few sample name tags as examples. I’m looking forward to this opportunity!
Busy day
Henry and I continue to work on the Yarrow Days parade float jeep. Henry would love to rush through it but is learning this project is complex and will take all of the time we have left - eight more weeks of work. Today, we did the usual - taking the little Jeep for a joyride around the neighbourhood.
Then, we began working on the pieces we needed. We hauled the frame for the trailer from the boneyard on which we will build the cannon. We did some chalk sketches to work out the scale and design of the project, with Henry adding some imaginative ideas. Then, it was time to break out the tools. The cannon will fire some pyrotechnics along the parade route, and we are working with a friend to supply the necessary charges. We cut some small pipes into short lengths, and Henry used the die grinder to remove the burrs. We welded up the subsections, including a similar test piece, which we gave to our friend. He’ll create some sample charges and then return them for Henry to try and approve.
After working in the shop for almost two hours, it was time for a break and then something different. Then, we brought out the tractor and dug out all of the old sand in the sandbox. This was replaced with new sand. Henry worked hard to rake it out perfectly.
It was a busy day!
Sculpting logs complete
Today, Matt & I sculpted the second twisted log to ready Kraay’s barn chandelier for paint next week. I’ll add the bird’s feet just before the paint begins. The birds are getting their first of three coats of metallic blue paint. We will apply a near back glaze at the end which will allow this dark blue to peek through and shimmer in the light. This has been a very fun piece without a doubt!
