Getting better every day!

As the painting crew layer the colours on the Vala’s Pumpkin Patch signs they get more spectacular by the hour. They are still working with base colours and have yet to start the aging and glazing process which will take these beauties over the top. We talked with the shipping company today and it is hard to believe that in about three weeks these two signs along with the many others in progress will be on their way to Nebraska.

Even more dirt 2

I substantially finished the dirt banks on the first truck this afternoon and was tempted to keep going on the truck. After some thought I decided instead to work on the second piece (my official entry) and bring it to the same level of completion before proceeding with the truck. It would be similar but not the same as the first, improving the design where I thought it needed it. I made good progress on the second piece, working about half of the way around. The stump is a little bigger on this piece and the upper area became just a little larger as well. I’ll be adding a rickety wooden retaining wall on the other side as well for just a little extra contrast in textures. It’s not often we get the second chance to tweak our designs so this is a whole lot of fun!

More dirt

I got a little time today to sneak into the shop and do some sculpting on my Sign Invitational entry. I worked on the dirt bank base and managed to get about 1/3 of the way further around. It’s looking pretty good so far. It is fun to work, simply inventing it as I go, while keeping in mind how everything else will fit in when it’s all done. One the other side I’ve hollowed out the base and built a cavity to hide the batteries in an inconspicuous place. There are fourteen entrants signed up this year (so far) and I know the competition is going to be stiff so I am determined to give it my best effort. No details will be spared as this comes together.
