Freshly painted to look old!

With each project we tackle we love to experiment with new techniques. For Vala’s farm the signs we are creating need to look like old barn wood to fit in with the existing attractions. They have to look like they’ve been down on the farm and out inn the weather for decades. This meant a whole new palette of colours, bright, yet muted and aged far more than our norm. The first sign will be the test and once complete will set the direction for the rest which follow. So far the cookie Coop sign looks to be passing with flying colours! Becke and Alyssa are doing well!

Instant ancient tree

Anytime we do concrete sculpting a whole lot of progress seems to happen in a single day. This task typically involves the whole crew working together and we need to work quickly to ensure the task is done before the concrete cures. Today, the train sign tree received its sculpted skin. We were going for an aged and weathered look which meant lots of fine detail which is a whole lot of fun! The end result was pure magic!

Rolling pin sculpted

We sculpted the giant rolling pin for the Pie Barn today. Matt and Alyssa led the effort with Grant, Peter and myself assisting as needed. As the concrete was troweled on the pin seemed to grow substantially. Once the concrete had cured enough to begin carving it took a couple of hours to sculpt the woodgrain. The toughest part was behind the steel letters.
