Good start on the roof!

It was exciting to finally be at the stage of the building process where the roofing shingles were being installed on something bigger than a tower. The roofing crew made good progress on their first day and managed to waterproof the roof and finish most of one side as well as well. We are pleased with the roofing material which looks a lot like slate tiles when installed (as intended). It won’t be long until it is dry inside the North Star suite!

Green side up

We often are doing projects that we’ve never attempted previously. It’s the nature of our business. Thankfully, there are always knowledgeable people we can ask for advice. When it came time to put the soil up on the roof of the Underhill suite we thought it made sense that it would require a special blend. A little internet searching gave us the answer and a little more searching located a company that specialized in a lightweight soil that was designed just for this purpose. Amazingly, this company was located less than ten kilometres from our door! Our friend John at Wishlow Crane Service provided the transport and lifting power to get the massive bags of soil up to the roof. While he was handy, John lifted the pallets of sod and the shingles for the North Star roof to the upper level as well. Our crew donned their rain gear for the task as it was a very blustery and rainy day. By the end of the work day we had a very green roof!
