It was rock sculpting day in the shop. The crew carved sixteen beautiful rocks in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are for the gold mine feature for Loco Landing Adventure Park in Penticton.
Flying saucer
Today was a very exciting day as we lifted the Underhill tree and the Copper Crown roof into place. The tree was first moved onto our trailer, then the giant head of the North Star garden was nudged into place. This was followed by the tree support structure, then the tree. All of that was done without any concerns. Then it was time for the biggest piece of the day, the giant saucer shaped roof. We rigged the chains and began the lift. All went smoothly like a dream and in less than half an hour it was welded securely in place. This video documents the lift and has been sped up considerable.
Plywood road
Today’s task was to get ready for the giant lift tomorrow. In order to get the two halves of the tower roof into the gravel driveway we had to build a plywood road for the castors to roll on - about 90 feet long. Our little tractor provided the motive power with four of our crew doing the steering. In about an hour we had the two halves in place and bolted together. Tomorrow a ninety ton crane will lift the roof into place. The Underhill’s tree will also fly into place as well. The trusses for the Copper Crown and the North Star suite arrive on Wednesday. By the end of the week the profile of the Hazelnut Inn will be complete at last!
