Along with the large projects underway in the shop we have a whole bunch of smaller ones in progress as well. The North Star Suite of the Hazelnut Inn will be decorated with numerous ‘artifacts’ gathered from around the globe by our illustrious explorer. The eclectic collection of trinkets and treasures will be diverse, reminiscent of many different cultures (both real and imagined). One of the assorted curios will be an ‘ancient’ mask made from wood and hemp. As with most of what we create in our shop the wood and hemp will be simulated from other more durable materials. Only the feeling will be real.
Looking down
The worksite at the Hazelnut Inn is rapidly changing these days. The last of the vertical concrete was poured last week. The forms are quickly disappearing and the wood framing on the remaining walls will begin this coming week. The trusses are on order and in the next few weeks the Inn will appear much more complete as the roof goes on. Our contractor sent up his drone for some aerial pictures. The pictures provide a good look at the Hazelnut Inn property and shows how it relates to the Imagination Corporation property next door.
One castle roof to go!
The Hazelnut Inn is undoubtably the most complex structure we’ve built to date. There is a whole lot of engineered concrete and steel throughout. We have cut and welded many, many miles of steel with many more to go before we are finished. The large castle tower roof structure is currently in progress in the shop. Today we substantially finished the welding of the frame and lifted it onto the dolly wheels for easy movement in the shop and to the worksite soon. Jeff cut the bulk of the steel pieces with Matt, Peter and myself doing the welding. It is extremely sturdy and will get more so as we begin the sheeting of the curved roof next week. We still have a little work on the front tower. As soon as that is finished we will begin work on the top tower which will sit on top of the roof. It is going to be amazing to see this giant section of the castle being lifted into place as one assembly. Stay tuned…
