No matter what the size of our projects, when the concept design is done it is but the start of the creative process. Rather than locking things in, the design is a guide that informs the finished result. Many better ideas are often discovered as the actual build proceeds. We aren't afraid to take away or add new parts as we go. As I began the assembly of the wall clock for next year's Sign Invitational I added to the thickness of the piece by several inches. Things were rearranged as necessary and the steam machine boiler has become horizontal rather than vertical. I also elected to use stonework rather than brick on the large outside arch as I began the sculpting process. A bunch of other changes are already planned as well. Stay tuned...
Sleepy head
There's a massive sleepy head in our shop, getting more colourful by the day. It's now ready for the application of the glazes and dry brush which will transform it to the giant ancient stone sculpture we are going for. Stay tuned...
Mellow yellow
Things are getting a lot more colourful in the shop as the paint and glazes go onto the completed features of Hazelnut Inn. The electrical tower got it's glaze today. The effect was subtle but effective as they started at the top and worked their way down. The glaze was a deep school bus yellow as they brushed a thick coat on, but toned down as it was towelled it off judiciously. It won't be long until the three large pieces of this feature are ready to be pushed out of the shop to make room for more.
