Julio is golden

Over the last three days Julio did a little of just about everything we do in our shop. He welded, wired, mixed and troweled concrete, carved, sculpted, painted, glazed and gilded. He asked a hundreds of questions and got hundreds of answers in return. Our time together was much like a workshop and as anyone who has attended one of those, the time was plugged full of hands-on learning. Through our time we also became much better friends and I look forward to spending more time together in the future. Thank you Julio for taking the time from your busy schedule to visit us!

Learning new things

While I love to tell people of what we do, I enjoy sharing ten times more when we can do it in a hands on setting. When Julio came to visit he wanted to try his hand at creating our brand of magic. Yesterday, he did some painting and sculpting with epoxy. Today, he did some glazing, then welded for the first time. He attached galvanized mesh, mixed our 'secret' concrete mix and troweled it on to the armature. Then, for the first time he did some carving and did a great job too! When someone is as eager to learn and try new things it makes my job as a teacher really easy. But it isn't all one way for as Julio learned he also shared his knowledge with me. It's been a great visit so far and tomorrow we continue the fun!

Friendly visit

I've known Julio for about ten years. I first met him at a trade show when I bought my first MultiCam CNC router. Over the years Julio (who works for MultiCam and I have talked many times. He's taught me much about CNC machines and answered my endless questions. Each time we met he stated his desire to visit our shop to see first hand what we do. That day is finally here. He's visiting to learn about the various techniques we use with our work. There's no better way to learn than hands on.
