Just last week we sent out a fifty-two foot semi trailer full of finished pieces. Just a few days later the shop is already bursting at the seams once more. The bulk of the space is occupied by more large pieces for NEBs Fun World,. Tucked into the smaller areas are other projects as well. The shop is busy with all kinds of things going on.... welding, grinding, lathing, carpentry, sculpting and painting. It's a very busy place and full to the brim once more.
Breakout
We are keeping super busy in the shop but I manage to sneak away a few minutes here and there through the day to work on the train. The roof is now on the cab and I have started the final coat of sculpting epoxy on the billboard surface. Originally the train was going to come out of a painted tunnel in the mural but I decided to break it through the painted billboard surface instead for a more dramatic effect. To enable the smoke effect on the train I had to do a little more surgery with a large drill bit. I'll put the smokebox door back on shortly. So far I am happy with the project and look forward to adding many more details. Stay tuned...
streetcar CAFE
I love to build samples. More than a hundred and fifty hang on the walls of our studio. And we continue to add to the collection regularly. The samples are a great way to build our skills. They serve as great examples of our work and they look cool. One of my personal favourite samples was done some years ago. It is a little streetcar. The little model is similar to the interurban that ran in the lower mainland of British Columbia and countless other cities around the North American continent. At the time I designed and built the model it taxed my abilities with the CNC routing program.
