The crew continues to make wonderful progress on the first half of the first Viking ship while we continue out wait for the return of more pieces from the galvanizer. Today, the painters completed the blended base coats and then applied the first glaze on the wood planks. The result popped the grains very well. Another darker glaze will really make it shine. They will begin applying the colours on the top plank and the shields as well as painting and glazing the barnacles and applying a little algae growth along the water line.
Color on ship
The crew worked hard today to sandblast the galvanized surfaces in preparation for paint and then lay a coat of primer and two base coats of colour onto the first Viking ship hull. The change was instant and made even more dramatic by the last pieces in front of it which still are to go to the galvanizers. Tomorrow, the final pieces of the frame belonging to the second half of this ship will be assembled and the process of sculpting will begin by Thursday at the latest.
Pokemon
A little more than a week ago we began to notice that young people (and older folks too) were gathering outside of our gates by the road. As people often do these days they were using their mobile phones. Seeing young people using their phones and having people stop to take pictures at our place is nothing new. Only this time it seemed a little different than usual. It didn't take long to piece together the mystery however. It seems our place is a Pokemon Gym. I don't even pretend to understand this latest craze, nor am I going to download the game app and try it on my phone. I have enough real stuff in my life to keep me very busy. At least the game is getting these folks off the couch and out into the fresh air.
