Yesterday, it was finally time to place the front keel into position on the hull framework. We've been working on the plans and pieces for many weeks and knew they were large. But seeing it on paper and in pieces is one thing. Seeing it raised into place on the ship was something else entirely. It dwarfed Peter standing on the ground! The tail section of the keel will be next and then in the coming week we'll finish off the framework for the hull of the ship. The second ship's lower framework is also nearing completion and in a few days we will pull the ship's pieces from the shop and assemble it beside the first.
Stone Viking
We started at the top of the target rocks for the Viking project at Motiongate in Dubai. The biggest target is a giant carved stone Viking head (as in the movies). The massive welded and wired frame suddenly got even larger as the see-through mesh suddenly became solid rock.
New team member
We brought a new member with some great experience onto our team. Felix Feng is a Senior Theme Facade Specialist, with two years of experience working on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in the new Shanghai Disneyland park due to open in two weeks. He is an expert at carving woodgrains in concrete. As we teach Felix our techniques in carving he is also sharing with us his experience. We put that knowledge and experience to good use today as we continued the sculpting of the target feature of the Viking project which is going to Motiongate Parks in Dubai.
