Peter's Sign Challenge piece lept to life today as he finished assembling the larger bits and began sculpting the details. His years of experience as an animator brought that hard to achieve sparkle of life to his mechanical man. This piece is going to be nothing short of fabulous when it is done!
A new laughing place
When we planned our house we made sure it had a large enough deck by the front door to allow us to hang a porch swing. The rafters were strengthened to allow hangers to be built in to the porch ceiling. The framework for the porch swing seat was welded up and tested more than two years ago but it had to wait in line with the thousands of other details of the house. This week the bench was finally finished and hung in it's permanent home.
Reviving some old ideas
The idea of the swoopy steel I-beams for the trade show booth came to be more than five years ago. I had designed and proposed a steampunk/seaside village concept for a west coast town. Sadly, the group wasn't able to fund and proceed with the project. The fully developed ideas have languished in my file ever since, waiting for the day when they might come to pass. I still believe their day will come.
The trade show booth seemed like a great place to actually construct a small part of those ideas. Our MultiCam CNC Plasma cutter provided the capability to produce the heavy steel pieces economically. Even so it is proving to be a lot of hard work to cut, form, fit and weld the thick steel together. The first I-beam pillar is almost complete.
