Riding with a grateful heart

I went for a bike ride this afternoon in the sunshine with a grateful heart, and I felt perfectly fine! As I peddled my bike along the river paths and enjoyed the beautiful views, I also remembered. Three years ago today, about this same time, I was waking up in a Victoria hospital after an open-heart surgery. Although I was groggy and definitely under the influence of some powerful drugs, I was extremely grateful then, too. A few days previously, to my surprise, I had been diagnosed with heart disease, with nine severe blockages of the arteries around my heart. Thanks to the care and skill of many health professionals, my heart was repaired with a six-bypass surgery. That day was the first day of a journey back to good health. With the loving support of family and friends, my journey back to a normal life was relatively quick. Every day since is a bonus day, and I am truly grateful.
