Our studio is best described as somewhat cluttered - especially our desk. The room is about 600 square feet and houses our vast collection of more than forty years of books, trinkets, ideas, samples and project models. At its highest point the curved ceiling is about 17 feet from the floor. This is my happy place, where I spend the bulk of my work hours designing fabulous and far flung projects. Even after coming to this space almost every day for the last 23 years I still find it inspiring. The desk is far from ordinary, wrapping 21 feet around the curved front of the studio. Our creative workspace faces east, outwards towards a spectacular mountain view that is ever changing. The desk surface holds three computer work stations, with my large Mac screen in the centre. Peter uses the windows laptop machine for creating router files and a Mac laptop that he takes home with him each evening. There’s a printer on the left. Piles of rough sketches and notes, printout papers, reference books and a wide variety of random objects litter the giant desk. These tidbits relate to current projects and quickly build up over time. Above the desk, carved into the giant beam is the latin phrase, ‘SOMNIUM TUNC CONSTRUCTUM’ which translates to ‘Dream, then Build’. This neatly sums up what we are privileged to do.
