Submarine number one

While searching through dusty old plans of our client’s building in preparation for an upcoming project I came across the construction drawings of a submarine. The drawings were dated 1991 - thirty-one years ago. The submarine which measured in at 23’ feet long was built shortly after and was one of my very first theme park projects .To build the sub in our garage (my workshop at the time) the sub was squeezed into the space diagonally. When we were pulling it out the nose of the sub accidentally poked through the drywall as it was a super tight fit. I made the sub out of plywood with literally thousands of screws with fender washers for rivets. Each screw was carefully measured out and then installed one at a time. I bought a full size plastic skeleton who served as the captain and was visible in the bubble windows. I remember bringing the skeleton home in my truck, seat belted into the passenger seat. We got lots of second looks on the journey. The submarine was for an underwater themed mini golf and it was in operation until last November when ironically, a massive flood destroyed the underwater golf and the submarine. Now, we are working on an exciting new project to replace it.
