After months of work ( a little at a time) the mechanical fish took a giant leap forward tonight - or at least it semed to. With the sculpting done we were down to paint. The base coats on the rocks and bottom were applied this afternoon leaving only the glaze to go. The rockwork and base went quickly and smoothly, easy for it could be done in small sections with no fear of join lines. It was down to the fish. For the last time I removed it from the base and set it on the temporary base. I took a deep breath and started painting. In tenty minutes I had made my way all around the sub and rubbed the glaze off again save for the joinlines and appropriate aging. It always amazes me how a project comes together in a few minutes with the final applications of paint and glaze. Suddenly it just works.
It's all done - except for painting the chains and hoists and a few other details. Another half hour or so and the fish will really be complete. Stay tuned...
