WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

A little more than two years ago I was approached by someone who wanted to build a small regional theme park. I was to do the design. The project was near the Okanagan Lakes home of the world famous Ogopogo a lake monster reported to be about 65 feet (22 meters) long. There have been many sightings through the years. The town even posted a million dollar reward for proof as part of their tourism marketing.

Our plan was to build a theme park based on this legend. Under wraps of total secrecy we would transport the 'Ogopogo' to the site and then reveal it as the 'real' thing claiming we had salvaged it from the depths of the lake. We would claim the million dollar reward too of course, not expecting to get it but rather for taking advantage of the worldwide press we and the town would receive.

The plans were drawn and I constructed this scale model, with the real sub to be built at full size.

Sadly the world wide recession happened just as the plans were completed and the park was shelved - perhaps forever. But then again the Ogopogo may yet surface for all to enjoy.
