OFF IN ANOTHER DIRECTION

oyama entry

One of the hardest things I have to do is explain what it is we do in our shop. Our projects often defy description and at any one time we often have a variety of projects on the go. Currently we have a number of dimensional signs in progress. A parade float is well under way. The MultiCam project is stacked in every corner and is in various stages of assembly. Our in the driveway the board room table is quietly acquiring it’s coat of rust. Some pieces have already been delivered to the customer and the materials for more pieces wait in stacks around the shop.

We also are building a large subdivision entrance monument and 22 lot markers with a Japanese theme. I spent the last few days under my welding helmet working up the structural steel for the large pieces (only one is shown above.)  I’ll be sculpting the bonsai tree with my assistant in the next days.

The rock work is being done by a former employee who now owns his own company and specializes in this type work. www.stonetreestudios.com  Phoenix also happens to be my son-in-law and I welcome the opportunity to work with him once more. The rocks are 20 feet wide and about nine feet tall. The framework is being built in our driveway to be transported to the work site =next week. There Phoenix and his crew will put on a thick coat of concrete and then work his magic to sculpt amazingly real rock work in a few days. The end result will be a rick bluff that looks like it has been there for a millennia. Our signs will attach to the rocks.
