I always get a kick out of watching someone who is looking at one of my signs when I tell them the letters are 23K gold. They immediately have to touch the sign. And I get that ‘REALLY ?’ look. I’m not kidding. It is real 23K gold.

Real gold is like nothing else on earth. It has a shine and luster that nothing else can match. It gathers light and reflects it back to the viewer. Gold adds sparkle value and prestige to a sign. Properly done it will outlast the paint around it by far. It won’t tarnish over time. Applying gold leaf too a sign is getting to be a lost art in today’s vinyl world. Not many sign guys do it these days and that’s a shame.

We buy our gold in sheets. The gold comes slightly affixed to sheets of tissue. It’s called patent gold. I first paint the lettering with ‘size’ - a special clear oil based varnish. This is brushed on and then allowed to almost dry or ‘TACK UP’ before the next step.
