Because we wanted to demonstrate as many techniques as possible at our workshop we decided to make the rocks out of sculpted concrete. I mixed it up in a five gallon pail and then set about applying it with a trowel to a thickness of an inch thick. Then after allowing it to set up for a couple of hours some detail was carved into the surfaces.
While the concrete set up I worked on the edges of the high density urethane signs we had glued up the previous evening. Since the back and fronts of the signs featured dimensional woodgrain the edges needed the same treatment. An air powered grinder was just the tool to accomplish the task in a hurry!
Our new mailbox is certainly taking shape in Yarrow...
