A number of years ago I was visiting a fellow artist’s studio and saw some big gears he had laying in his scrap pile. I loved them... and he gave them to me. At the time I know they would make something cool but I had no idea what.
Fast forward to this week. My friend Donna is an incredible artist, making the coolest things for her home and others with found objects. On her blog she showed a lamp base made from rusty old gears. I immediately knew how I would use those gears I had picked up so many years ago. I dug them out of my boneyard out back, gave two to Donna (as a thank you present) for her projects and set to work on my new lamp base. In less than five minutes I had this cool new base welded up for my desk lamp. The center of the second gear will make a great pen holder. Now I just have to paint the lamp to match with some of my rusty paint.
