Her highness

Each year, we reserve the week before Yarrow Days to give the exterior of Hazelnut Inn a thorough refresh. We do pressure washing, paint touch-up, planting, and various other tasks to make everything like brand new. To get to the higher points of the Inn, we rent a manlift. Juniper, our bravest grandchild, of course, wanted to go to the top. She donned the required safety harness and went up with her dad to paint the roof of the ship.

Super nice pic

The kind folks at Downey’s Farm hired a professional photographer (Stephanie Lee Photography) to shoot a wide variety of wonderful photos of the signs we did in this year’s installation. We will enter the shots in this year’s national and international sign competitions and use them in our portfolio. The owners report the letters are super popular with their guests - just as we predicted.

Yard maintenance

Keeping a small acreage looking good is challenging. To make mowing the lawn a little easier, I like to cut circles around the trees and fill them with bark mulch. Mowing around the circles keeps me from being swept off the mower by low branches. With 22 trees on the property, it is a good-sized project each spring to recut the circles and freshen up the mulch. Today’s task was the 9 fruit trees at the back of the property.
