There is one last bit of sculpted concrete to complete. It has been left undone to make room for the scaffold, which is now gone. Peter spent the day welding up the armature for the newel post at the bottom of the staircase. It will be a stone dragon. A while back, Peter sculpted the dragon head, which we scanned to make a digital file for routing the giant light fixture that hangs in the Copper Crown Suite. The newel post armature will be made of a variety of materials, including wood, concrete, steel and Precision Board HDU, and sculpting epoxy. Peter is fastening this armature in place and then adding the lath. The sculpted concrete will soon follow. Stay tuned…
Let there be light
This past week, the electrician from BNR Electric was busy pulling the last of the wires and installing the first of the plugs, switches and lighting fixtures. For the first time, we witnessed the beautiful, magical glow of the Copper Crown Suite at the Hazelnut Inn. This week, the concrete sculpting will be complete, leaving the painting and tiling to be done. Stay tuned…
Downey's Farm sign concept
I’ve been posting the build of various components in progress for the new Downey’s Farm welcome sign/planter for a few days, but haven’t yet revealed the concept design. Seeing this drawing will make more sense of what I’ve shown thus far. This coming week, we’ll continue work on the structural frame, start on the pencil rod armature and begin routing the sign faces.
