Interpreting a customer logo to become a full 3D sign is always fun. This one was five layers high and about eight inches deep overall. Each element is routed from a sheet of one-and-a-half-inch thick Precision Board high-density urethane which is mounted to ten gauge steel. After I laminated the HDU to the steel we welded half-inch rods as standoffs to securely hold everything together. This assembly was temporarily welded to a mobile stand for painting. Once the wall segment is fully fabricated, sculpted and painted we will mount it to the wall. It will be at ground level and will be a great photo op for guests as they enter NEB’s Fun World.
NEB's section. sculpted!
It was another great day of progress in the shop. The first section of the NEB’s entry wall is now fully sculpted. The detailed work took the entire crew's efforts and the results are truly stunning! Next week, after it cures, the painting crew will begin their magic! Stay tuned…
Child's play
I consider it pure joy and a rare privilege to exercise my inner child every day. The skills we employ are the same ones we all did from an early age. Back then it was in a sandbox. Now it involves more permanent materials. Juniper and Henry joined us in the shop for a short while after school. They were of course eager to help. Under their dad’s watchful eye, they skillfully carved the giant rocks and did a wonderful job. It is child’s play after all.
