It was a very busy week in the shop as our fabrication crew started the complex structure for the first of many sections of the new entry wall at NEB’s Fun World in Oshawa, Ontario. The large wall will be about forty-five feet wide and thirty-five feet tall at its highest point. The design has undergone many iterations over the last six months and is a delicate balance of function and form. The challenging part of this project is that it needs to be built in more than thirty manageable sections to facilitate transport and assembly into a finished and operating facility. The pieces need to go together seamlessly when they arrive on site, so we will be taking the necessary time required to build the frames accurately. Once the critical frames are welded it will be on to the pretty stuff. Stay tuned as this exciting project comes together…
Magical colours
We have a good-sized painting crew laying on the paint inside the North Star suite of the Hazelnut Inn. As they triple-coat the base colours it doesn’t look like much is accomplished for at the end of the day the walls, ceilings and beams are the same colour as they were the day before. The dramatic changes occur when our talented crew gets to the glazes. In what seems like an instant everything comes to life. Rich patinas and weathered cracks are the magic. This space is going to be like no other! Stay tuned…
Dome is done!
If you were to lay on your back on the inlaid tile compass rose in the sitting area of the North Star Suite and look up into the dome high above you would see an ancient map of the universe. It features an earth-centric vision of when the ancients thought everything revolved around us. The names of the planets are written in Latin of course. The work lights don’t highlight it the way the hidden indirect lights will but it already looks pretty cool. With this portion of the ceiling now complete, the painting crew will soon erect a shorter scaffold and continue to work their way down to the floor. Stay tuned…
