Just imagine an entire land where everyone is shrunk to one-sixth their normal height. In an instant, everything we take for granted is bigger than life. The experience would make everyone suspend their disbelief and use their imagination. Everyone would be a kid again… and that would be a whole lot of fun!
The best of form and function
Creating a fanciful concept for a feature is always a great deal of fun and the wilder the better! But that concept drawing isn’t much good without a good and cost-effective way to build it. That’s the tricky part. With more than forty years of hands-on experience under our belt, I fully understand it is best to keep the hidden structure in mind as I dream and design those fanciful blue sky concepts. Better yet, it is handy to have Peter look over my shoulder as I draw. He’s not afraid to offer his opinion and we always have some spirited discussions as we design together. We often don’t agree, but we always have fun as we work things out. These discussions involve form, function and the mechanics of making all the pieces work together logically. The result is pure poetry in action, much better than either of us could come up with on our own… and some very wild projects!
A typical sign
I’ve been a creative sign-maker for well over half a century. Although many of our projects don’t appear to be typical signs, they are carefully designed to accomplish the very same task - albeit in an exuberant fashion. They aim to attract attention to our customers’ product, service or business. Occasionally, our projects demand a more ‘typical’ sign which I also enjoy - as long as it isn’t too ordinary.
