Janis & I had been married for about a year when we first travelled to Disneyland for a vacation. We had a LOT of fun and it proved to be a turning point in our lives. It was during that visit I first got the idea I could make a living creating imaginative places. It would be years before I had the skills, tools and clients to make it possible… but the inkling and desire were in place because of that first visit to this magical place. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Disney parks around the world many times since. Each time we combine fun with my continuing education for the Disney Imagineers are the best in the world at this craft. This week, as part of our fiftieth-anniversary celebration, (next June) Janis and I are in California, enjoying the sunshine, a fun time together and topping up on inspiration.
Interior peek
Work continues on the interior of the Hazelnut Inn, the North Star suite being the furthest along. Parts of it are nearing completion, complete with final paint. This photograph, provided by the BNR electrical team is of the inside of the ship which pokes out of the center tower. This will be the bedroom. Even up close, it is hard to believe that the wide planks are not real wood but all hand-sculpted concrete. It is going to be awesome once the floor tiles, bed and rich layered draperies finish things off. Stay tuned as it comes together!
Special view
There are going to be so many great spots to take spectacular pictures when we are finished building the Hazelnut Inn. It was carefully designed that way from the time we first put pencil to paper more than six years ago. We double-checked every angle and view when we built the scale model shortly thereafter. And now as we carefully put all of the pieces together we can see them for real at long last. One of my favourite picture spots is peering through the garden gate of the Under Hill, up towards the Copper Crown which towers overhead. The garden is still very much in construction mode but the view is already pretty special. I can easily imagine this angle with the cobblestone deck and full landscaping in place. It is slowly becoming more real every day. Stay tuned…
