BIG owl!

The crew poured the coal to finish off the week with a major piece sculpted. Keith handled the mixing of the concrete while Matt & Peter did the troweling. Being a warm day, the whole crew jumped in to complete the sculpting before it hardened. By the end of the day, a giant pumpkin owl dominated the shop space. Next week the painting crew will splash on the first colour to bring this piece together. Stay tuned…

Its an owl!

The ghostly shape of the giant pumpkin owl is quickly taking shape as the crew ties the diamond lath to the welded armature. One more day of work will ready this piece for the sculpted concrete. Inside the shop, the giant pumpkin photo op armature is also getting its skin of lath. Next week there will be a lot of sculpted concrete!

Making magic - every day!

Today, as the work day neared its end, I looked at all the work in progress in the shop. What I witnessed made me smile. Every piece was amazing. Out in the driveway were many more features and signs, in various stages of completion. Each was unique and pretty wild. Giant pumpkin signs, an antique truck, a big old photo-op pumpkin, a massive mushroom castle, a dragon, and many more. Although it worried me occasionally when we first started, I don’t believe we’ll ever run out of fun ideas, nor wonderful customers who ask us to make them a reality. It sure beats actually working for a living! :)
