I really, really enjoy riding my e-bike and I’m really racking up the kilometres (more than 760 so far this season) but there’s one thing I enjoy far more than simply putting on the miles. That’s riding with the people I love! This evening I was privileged to take Phoebe on one of my favourite trails from Hope to the Quintette tunnels and back, about a ten kilometre ride. Phoebe loves nature and local history too and this ride combines the best of both. Riding in to the tunnels was a gentle 1-2% grade uphill most of the way and Phoebe got quite the workout. She found the ride from the tunnels back to the Jeep in Hope a whole lot easier! We had a good time on our first summer adventure together!!
Wrenching
Little Henry still doesn’t talk much but he communicates just the same. He knows a lot of sign and when that fails he resorts to one sound, with expression, repeating it and pointing until we understand. He absolutely loves ‘helping’ grampa at whatever task I may be up to. A few days ago Juniper got a new bike and is getting pretty good at it riding it too. Henry of course wanted to do the same. Juniper was reluctant to give up her turn at riding her new bike. I knew the perfect solution. We had Phoebe’s old bike tucked away in the boneyard for the last decade. I dusted it off, pumped up the tires, oiled up the chain and brought it out for Henry. He was very excited but the seat was set much too high so I went back to the shop and got a wrench to adjust it more to Henry’s size. Henry immediately wanted the wrench a whole lot more than he wanted to ride the bike. He carefully went over every nut and bolt, doing his very best to make sure they were all tight. Wrenching is a whole lot of FUN! I snapped a photo of him doing his work. As I looked at the picture tonight I was reminded of a similar photo I had taken almost 13 years ago, back when Phoebe was the same age, as we were working on Peter’s bike. Comparing the two photos made me smile.
Fresh from the orchard
Our client grows the most delicious apples, picked at the peak of ripeness and flavour. There are many varieties and the challenge was to find a memorable and fun way to display them in their store. Space was at a premium as i always is. Our solution was this little truck. Real antique apple boxes will be stacked up on the deck to hold the apples. The Vala name is prominent in many places to help market our customer’s unique brand. And families can jump in the truck cab for a quick photo while they shop. When they post the selfie to their social media account or share it with family and friends they’ll be spreading the word about the delicious apples they found down on Vala’s farm!
