Helping hand

Yesterday, three year old Juniper dropped in to visit us in the shop. True to form it wasn’t long until she decided we could really use her help. Her dad handed her a soft brush and showed her how to swipe off the crumbles on the newly carved concrete stones. She stayed until quitting time making sure we finished on time. She did a great job too!

A stone fortress

The prefabrication is now complete on the Copper Crown castle suite gate and that meant we could start the sculpted concrete at last. We began with the stonework which will end up being partially covered by the plasterwork. The gate pieces suddenly looked much more substantial and solid! It is the beginning of a fortress. Next week we’ll do a little decorative plaster making things ready for the first paint.

The first glaze

The first glaze on the clock piece changed things in a big way by aging and defining all of the components. From here on the differences will be much more sublet but will add layers of richness and colour. The piece is starting to look a lot more like what I had in mind from the start. It won’t be long now until it is ready to ship. Stay tuned…
