Today was an exciting day! The first of the inside finishes on the Hazelnut Inn were applied today. We are currently prefabricating the big tower for the Copper Crown castle suite in the shop. We did the outside of the tower a fews weeks ago, then installed the sprinkler system and wiring. Then came the spray insulation. Today we sculpted the interior walls and ceiling. The tower will go above the bedroom of the suite with the bottom starting at 12 feet off the floor. That would have made for some crazy scaffolding if we did it in place! Instead we did it in sections in our studio. Even so the space was tight to cram in there sculptors! The domed ceiling was done separately. They sure look great! The painting and glazing will begin next week and as soon as they are done we’ll crane them up into place! Stay tuned…
Welding the moon
Peter did the final touches on the North Star suite tower roof topper this afternoon making it ready for paint. This included welding the ship and moon to the top of the weathervane. The giant piece is now ready to begin the painting process. It is going to look fabulous up on the Hazelnut Inn roof!
Beginning of a fortress wall
When we are finished the Copper Crown castle walls will look like they are built from solid stone but the reality is that they will be hollow -hand sculpted over a sturdy welded armature. Matt has been busy over the last while welding up the frames. It is all coming together quickly on the exterior. The prep work takes the longest and once this is done we’ll do the fibreglass reinforced concrete shell which will change things in a hurry! Stay tuned…
