Ever upwards

Today was a big sculpting day as the crew did the complete castle tower exterior of the Copper Crown Suite in the Hazelnut Inn. Outside was a blustery winter day (cool, rainy and windy) while inside we worked in comfortable shirtsleeves. Next week we’ll lift off the top cone to do the shingle work and also begin the paint work on outside of the tower. The inside will be sprayed with insulating foam and then we will do all of the interior finish work prior to lifting it into place as a complete unit. That will save a lot of time on scaffold and ladders!

Design challenge

We love a good challenge. Today’s second design adventure was to incorporate a (current building code) gas fireplace, a functioning chimney, a wall corner, a structural post and tons of shelves to hold ‘priceless’ knickknacks into one structure that would fit into the i’ve foot by five foot space allowed. It also had to incorporate have a round front and support a forty-two inch television (that didn’t look like a TV. And it had to be seventeen feet tall. On top of that it had to also look like the many pieces used to build it were gathered on far flung and exotic journeys of adventure. The only thing more fun than doing the design will be actually building it.

Let the sparks fly!

The shop was busy on the first day of 2019. One of the projects started today was the last piece for the GOLD MOLE which is bound for Loco Landing in Penticton. Golfers will putt their balls up a broken pipe (on account of the GOLD MOLE) towards the machine and then it will be deflected towards the hole. The pipe is heavy duty 8” schedule 20 pipe. Matt was busy welding and grinding the many joints so they are flawless. By the end of day tomorrow this piece should be ready for the concrete.
