Not every day goes according to plan at our house. Some days border on disaster! The weatherman was calling for a possible shower but it looked good enough to chance a concrete pour. All went well until the finishing crew got the concrete placed. Then the skies opened up as they seldom do in these parts. Over a period of about three quarters of an hour we got a series of four impressive torrential downpours. Finish troweling the concrete was out of the question until the rain was done. There was little anyone could do. Once the rain eased up we squeegeed the water off the fresh concrete and let the finishing crew do the best they could. The good news is the floors will be covered in tile before we are done.
Rainy day progress
With a spell of damp weather through the weekend it was the perfect time to do a little more work on my Sign Invitational entry. I decided to work on finishing the bottom section of the building first. I added a little more detail on the scooter and parked it right behind the no parking sign. An overflowing trash can was placed in this area as well to busy things up and add a little more interest to this front corner. Around back I built a doorway and fastened in the structure for the loading dock. I also managed a good portion of the brickwork on the lower section of the building. As I worked I was dreaming up more ideas of things I would soon add and also thinking about how we will paint the building when the time comes. It's going to be fun!
Avellana in colour
We lifted the hull of the Avellana into place last week. It looks fabulous but gets a little lost tucked into the giant trees which line the property of the Hazelnut Inn. That will change in a hurry when the cabin of the ship joins the hull for it now sports a bright coloured coat of paint. The crew have begun the glazing process which is making the trim really pop!
