Work is progressing quickly on the Hazelnut Inn work site! Today our task was to build the last concrete block wall. It was a tricky one as it was curved but after a week of practice and laying many hundreds of blocks we are getting very fast. The day seemed to fly by and before we knew it we were done! 😀
Underhill garden walls in place
It was with great delight that I laid the last block on the Underhill suite garden wall. Concrete blocks are heavy and rough and my hands and back are really going to like taking a break from masonry work! With the garden walls now clearly defined we can get a good sense of the space of the garden. The extensive theme work will take up a fair amount of the room but the lushly landscaped garden will be the perfect size for a couple to enjoy some private time together.
Front wall in!
The curved retaining wall is now in place at the front of the Hazelnut Inn property. The concrete blocks act as the structural element of the wall and will be filled with concrete for extra strength. We didn't spend a lot of time finishing the mortar joints which has some people concerned but the concrete block will be totally hidden in short order. As soon as we finish the backfill we will be welding a steel armature in front of the wall to support the decorative sculpted concrete. Things are proceeding rapidly.
