Front wall in!

The curved retaining wall is now in place at the front of the Hazelnut Inn property. The concrete blocks act as the structural element of the wall and will be filled with concrete for extra strength. We didn't spend a lot of time finishing the mortar joints which has some people concerned but the concrete block will be totally hidden in short order. As soon as we finish the backfill we will be welding a steel armature in front of the wall to support the decorative sculpted concrete. Things are proceeding rapidly.

Going vertical!

Each day the worksite of the Hazelnut Inn changes dramatically. The wooden forms for the footings are now removed and neatly stacked for reuse. Hundreds of cubic yards of sand fills the inside of the footings of the buildings and two of the three gardens. The most visual change is the concrete block walls for the gardens and raised paths which are quickly being built. It does not make much sense for our regular sidewalk superintendents at this stage but we can see it clearly already.
