Today was one of those days where we did a hundred things, went in all directions and kept extremely busy. We all felt tired at the end o our shift but wondered a bit what we had accomplished. The answer was 'a lot of little things which needed doing'. As I looked everything over at everything at day's end in search of a photograph for tonight's entry one project stood out. Jenessa and Matt had worked on the memorial bench in the afternoon, finishing the sculpt of the seat back and did a wonderful job! It looks even better than the concept!
First pour
I was mowing our front lawn this evening and a passerby stopped to ask what it was we were building next door. He had been carefully studying the numerous footings which to him seemed to go at all angles and levels. He had quickly surmised it wasn't a typical building and he was correct in his observation. The first pour of concrete happened today and as we go vertical in the next weeks we have no doubt the curiosity of those going by will increase dramatically. As the walls begin to rise it will be much more evident this is going to be an unusual project in every way imaginable. When we lift the themed pieces into place about a month from now it should stop traffic! It's going to be fun!
Officially underway!
We've all heard it said that a job isn't finished until the paperwork is done. When you are building a project like Hazelnut Inn the reality is that the bulk of the mountain of paperwork had to be done before we could actually start construction. After fourteen months of rezoning, engineering and permitting we actually received the building permit today. As soon as that bright orange card was in our hands we called for the first two inspections for tomorrow. The concrete will begin flowing into the forms on Wednesday morning, bright and early! The construction of Hazelnut Inn is officially underway!
