The house sign for the Arends family farm is now complete. We first painted the name with a bright gold metallic paint as an undercoat. The sign looked good but it didn't look nearly as elegant and it needed. The only solution (which we had planned) was the application of real 23K gold leaf to the lettering. The family name immediately popped and the sign came to life as I knew it would. There is nothing quite like real gold to add sparkle and class to a sign! We'll be delivering the sign and brackets this week. I can hardly wait to see them in place!
Top of the head
The top of the elephant head and wall were sculpted today in preparation for tipping the structure back on it's wheels for the rest of the build. It's the only way to get this giant feature out of the shop door and transport it to it's permanent home. We'll stand it up again when we lift it onto the corner of the garden retaining wall. Next week the crew will finish applying the lath and we'll sculpt the rest of the piece. Stay tuned...
All the way to the ground
Warm spring weather made it the perfect day to sculpt the bottom four feet of the giant sand castle. The castle now reach all the way to the ground. The crew enjoyed finishing off the sculpt and the bright warm temps. We'll give it until next week to cure and then they will apply the paint and glazes to ready it for the summer crowd. The castle sure looks good in it's new home!
