The View From Our Window
The age old question of which came first - the chicken or the egg has finally been solved. I offer photographic proof of course. :)
As I sculpted the chicken on the Arends sign today I first created a round egg shaped ball. It would form the basis of the chicken body. I then added the head shape and lastly began sculpting the hundreds of feathers. Tomorrow we begin the painting process.
Peter had a blast all day as he and the crew troweled on a thick coat of fibreglass reinforced concrete, let it set the perfect amount and then carved it to look like the ancient relic it is to be. They will let it cure for a bit and then start in on the paint that will make it totally believable. They now have a good head start. :)
Peter has had a deep hankering to build a giant sculpture of a head for many years. Each time he designed one for a project things (and people) conspired against him however and he was forced to shelve his dream time and time again. Today, the crew finished applying the galvanized lath to the giant armature of the head that will be part of the Hazelnut Inn. Tomorrow, at last, it will be time to trowel on the concrete and do the sculpting. Peter was beside himself with glee. He was so happy in fact he simply had to do a dance of joy! Up on the top of the head.
